“Let us all be the leaders we wish we had”
The last page of Simon Sinek’s book “Leaders Eat Last” says: “If this book inspired you, please pass it on to someone you want to inspire”.
I read this book because someone who shares my same values and work ethics recommended it. I’m writing this article hoping to inspire someone else to read this fantastic book, gaining a fresh perspective on what drives human behaviours in life as well as in business.
The Chemicals That Drive Us
One of the key concepts Sinek explains in his book has to do with what chemicals drive human behaviours. I found this part fascinating: the four chemicals Sinek introduces can explain a large deal of why we behave in certain ways.
Endorphins
are released in response to stress, pain, fear — they are engineered to mask physical pain with pleasure. It’s why a really hard workout makes us feel a lot better afterwards. Our muscles will be sore in minutes, we’re sweaty and tired — but we feel good. Endorphins enable endurance, and are what our ancestors needed to hunt and gather food even when exhausted and malnourished. Humans can develop a craving for endorphins, which is why we seek physical activity at the end of a long day — we don’t need to endure physical pain to procure food and shelter, so we found other ways to receive our endorphins shot.
